On Thursday March 26, 2026, hundreds gathered at Metro Headquarters to advocate for the proposed 9.5-mile K Line Northern Extension that would one day connect Crenshaw with Hollywood. The San Vicente–Fairfax extension route of the Metro K Line would serve an estimated 100,000 riders daily, connect 125,000 jobs within walking distance of stations and serve more than 325,000 residents, according to transit leaders.
Approximately 1,000+ comments were submitted in support of the San Vicente-Fairfax route. West Hollywood city council members were the first to comment. Mayor John Heilman was joined by Vice Mayor Danny Hang and council members Chelsea Byers and John Erickson along with several West Hollywood residents, city staff and city commissioners and board members.
The K Line Northern Extension Project will expand Metro rail service north from the current terminus and will connect West Hollywood, Mid-City, and Hollywood with high-quality rail service. The San Vicente-Fairfax alignment was identified as the preferred route following years of technical study and extensive community engagement. The project is anticipated to place more than 125,000 jobs within a half mile of new Metro stations, significantly expanding access to employment and reducing reliance on car travel.
Today’s Metro action marks a critical advancement in the environmental review process and brings the project closer to final design, funding, and eventual construction.
